When Kelly said they planned an intimate inner city affair, with the wedding in Fitzroy and the reception in Collingwood, I imagined a gentle day shooting and knocking back an espresso or two. I didn’t imagine that I would be running alongside a couple of business sized tricycles, two cameras in hand shooting from the hip paparazzi style. But style was the theme of the day, a subtle  inner urban uber chic that happened to begin with 1000 tulips (by Joost) in Kelly’s folk’s backyard and ended with some dance floor action in the multi concept CIBI. Kelly and Phil, you know how to travel.

Update: This wedding featured in Polka Dot Bride!

I don’t tend to shoot closeups in my jazz photography.  I try to get the feel of the evening by including all the elements that make up the scene. Its my vain attempt to capture musicality in a series of static images. This one shot of Steve Sedergreen at the piano breaks my own rule. But I was rather close and his intensity  has stayed with me, so here it is. Its from a set led by Perth singer Trent White. A fun night and a full house at the Paris Cat.
